Singapore | Personal claims do not fall within court’s interpleader jurisdiction

In the recent decision of Tamar Perry and anor v Jacques Henri Georges Esculier and anor and another matter [2021] SGCA(I) 5, the Court of Appeal held that personal claims (ie claims which do not give the plaintiff an ownership claim to the assets themselves but simply give the plaintiff the right to obtain a judgment against the defendant) do not fall within the court’s interpleader jurisdiction.
