Charmaine practices civil and commercial litigation. She has advised and acted for clients in a broad range of disputes involving matters of contract, trust, tort, insurance, banking and finance, shareholder rights and professional misconduct.

Charmaine also has experience in family law and has represented clients in proceedings for divorce, annulment, custody, care and control of children, division of assets, maintenance and personal protection.

Some of the matters which Charmaine has acted in include:

  1. Acted for a Thai hotel in a claim under its insurance policy for business interruption losses following a government-mandated closure of the hotel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Acted for a wholly-owned subsidiary of a company listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange in a successful application to sanction the restructuring of a US$145 million note
  3. Acted for a company and successfully obtained a declaration that it was permitted to prepay a term loan and redeem its mortgage by paying the principal and pro-rated interest: MKY Capital Pte Ltd v MDR Ltd [2022] SGHC 152.
  4. Acted for the wife in divorce proceedings and successfully argued for the inclusion of the husband’s retrenchment benefits and retention bonus in the matrimonial pool: UHG v UHH [2017] SGFC 136.
  5. Acted for father and son in a dispute over a conservation shophouse involving issues of common intention constructive trusts and resulting trusts.
