Joshua has an active disputes practice and is experienced in commercial and insolvency disputes.
 
He routinely acts for a variety of clients, including multi-national companies and state-owned entities, in court and arbitral proceedings, with a particular focus on complex, high-value and cross-border matters. In recent years, Joshua has also been involved in blockchain and digital assets disputes.  
 
In addition to acting as counsel, Joshua has been appointed as tribunal secretary in a number of SIAC arbitrations. He has also conducted SIAC and ICC arbitrations under the expedited procedure.
 
Valued for his keen commercial sensibility, Joshua has been described by clients as “thoughtful and client-centric” and “commercially-minded”.

Joshua has successfully handled complex, high-value and cross-border matters, ranging from offshore drilling contracts, large-scale energy projects, shareholder disputes, investment disputes, to disputes relating to digital assets. Joshua has also been involved in an array of insolvency and restructuring matters.

Some of the matters which Joshua has acted in include:

  1. Acted for state-owned enterprises involved in the oil and gas industry and obtained a SIAC arbitration award in excess of US$200 million.
  2. Acting in a complex claim over digital assets valued in excess of US$120 million involving Three Arrows Capital Ltd (in liquidation).
  3. Obtained a SIAC arbitration award in excess of US$150 million in relation to a financing transaction.
  4. Successfully resisted a claim against a deceased’s estate before the Singapore High Court and Appellate Division (Ong Chin Woon v Ong Bee Hah (co-administratrix of the estate of Tan Ah Moi, deceased) and others [2023] SGHC(A) 12).
  5. Acted for PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd in respect of a provisional liquidation to preserve a multi-million dollar investment in a joint venture.
