Vincent Ariesta Lie is a Partner at Makarim & Taira S. who combines broad legal experience with a keen sense of clients’ business contexts. Vincent can counsel clients with a view to their commercial objectives and the regulatory landscape. Besides handling traditional corporate practice areas, he is also familiar with the fast-evolving growth sectors in Indonesia such as the energy and digital fields.

Over the past 20 years, Vincent’s résumé has developed into an impressive list of substantial legal work and leading industry clients. He has represented prominent companies in a variety of proceedings and transactions such as, but not limited to, corporate and commercial matters including acquisitions and project financing, arbitration including the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards, natural resources and energy (mining, oil and gas, power plants), and information technology/startups.

Mining & Energy

  • Represented a consortium led by Sumitomo Corporation, PT Bhumi Jati Poweron the development of the Tanjung Jati 5 & 6 (Jawa-4) expansion (2 x 1000 MW power plants) by PT Bhumi Jati Power (project company)
  • Represented a consortium led by Marubeni Corporation, PT Cirebon Energi Prasaranain relation to the development of the Cirebon expansion Jawa-1 (1000 MW power plant) by PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana (the project company)
  • Represented a consortium led by China Shenhua Energy Company Limited in relation to the development of the Sumsel-1 Mine Mouth Coal Fired Steam power plant (2 x 300 MW power plants)
  • Represented PT Toba Bara Sejahtra on the PPA and project financing for the development of the Sulbagut 1 Coal Fired Steam power plant and Sulut 3 Coal Fired Steam power plant (each 2 x 50 MW power plants)
  • Represented a consortium led by STEAG PE GmbH (DEU) and PT Sejahtera Alam Energy (SAE) in relation to the development of the Baturraden Geothermal power plant (220 MW)

Foreign Investment

  • Represented Toba Bara Group’s companies in the acquisition of all shares in PT Bayu Alam Sejahtera, developer of the hybrid wind power project planned to be at Oelbubuk Village, Mollo Tengah District, Timor Tengah Selatan Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur Province, from, among others, Asia Power Development Platform Pte. Ltd. (APDP), in 2020
  • Represented AEON Delight (a member of AEON Group Companies) in the acquisition of PT Sinar Jernih Sarana, which becomes a pioneer project for a foreign investment company to engage in the integrated facility services that provides around 10,000 manpower to more than 300 clients accross Indonesia in 2019
  • Represented of PT Toba Bara Sejahtra Tbk and PT Toba Bara Energi in the acquisition of local portion shares of Paiton Energy from PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya in 2018

Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Insolvency & Restructuring

  • Represented a coal fired independent power producer in an Indonesian arbitration (BANI) regarding the implementation of the Power Purchase Agreement between the IPP and a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise (PLN)
  • Represented the claimant (an Australian mining company) in the dispute with the target companies and its shareholders at the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC)
