Lia Alizia is a Partner at Makarim & Taira S. and has built a reputation as a trusted advisor and litigator for multinational corporations and global brands throughout her career spanning over two decades. She has been involved in high-profile cases across various areas, including corporate, commercial, employment, restructuring & insolvency, anti-competition, intellectual property, and dispute resolution. Lia provides high-level counsel to clients across different industries and jurisdictions, particularly in complex corporate negotiations.

With her vast experience, Lia is well-versed in litigation-related issues as well as commercial, transactional, and corporate governance matters. Her expertise extends to civil matters and family law, specifically estate and succession legal issues. As a litigator, Lia adheres to strict ethical standards in representing clients before Indonesian courts and arbitration panels. More than a litigation specialist, she also advises clients on mitigating risks related to employment, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, IP enforcement, and litigation issues. A strong leader, she previously served as the firm’s Managing Partner for six years.

She serves as an Instructor Faculty at TRACE Anti-Bribery Specialist Accreditation and an Intellectual Property Rights Consultant. Lia is actively involved in professional organizations, holding positions such as Board Member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, Vice Head of International Affairs of the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi), and is a Chairwoman of the Board of Inter-Agency Cooperation of the Indonesia Labor Law Consultants Association.experience

  • Represented a major hotel chain (individual and company) in the investigation and court proceedings due to violation of employment and immigration regulations
  • Represented a multinational public company in food ingredients to review its employment agreements; advisory work on employment matters; representation in termination disputes; and delivery of in-house training on Indonesia’s employment issues
  • Represented a global e-commerce and cloud computing company in employment agreement review and employment matters
  • Represented a multinational technology conglomerate in a bribery investigation that led to the termination of employees

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

  • Represented a state-owned company (geothermal power project) in Arbitration and Criminal Proceedings
  • Represented a major global company producing animal vaccine as plaintiff in the breach of contract lawsuit against its 20-year business partner before the Indonesian court
  • Represented a leading hotel chain in enforcing the arbitration award on its behalf, and in defending their rights against lawsuit filed by the losing party from the arbitration award in SIAC (Singapore) (lawsuit filed in Indonesia)
